In late June 1982, I worked my first shift on the Wichita Fire Department. On February 12th, 2016 I made my last alarm on the Wichita Fire Department. What these two things have in common is, they both occurred at Station 5. My first fire, my first medical alarm, the first time I saw death up close. All experiences that helped had an impact on the person I am today.
As I spent my last few hours there, all the memories of good times and good guys, came flooding over me. I guess your first station is a little like your first love - nothing else is ever quite like it.
